32. The Anatomy of Anxiety with Dr. Ellen Vora

Ellen Vora, MD (she/her) is a board-certified psychiatrist, acupuncturist, and yoga teacher, and she is the author of the bestselling book The Anatomy of Anxiety. She takes a functional medicine approach to mental health—considering the whole person and addressing imbalance at the root. Dr. Vora received her B.A. from Yale University and her M.D. from Columbia University.

We both get real and share openly about our personal experiences with anxiety. We dive deep into the relationships between anxiety and food, parenting, and psychedelics. We cover SO much together, it is truly brimming with wisdom.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • Ellen’s background and what brought her to her work with anxiety

  • Ellen’s groundbreaking work around true and false anxiety, what each of those is, and how we can start listening to what our anxiety is telling us

  • Food and anxiety and how we can navigate cravings, nourish ourselves, and move through the shame and guilt we so often feel around food and body image

  • Parenting and anxiety and how we can give our children permission to be who they are and preparation for who society tells them to be

  • Psychedelics and anxiety and how psychedelics and plant medicine can support healing from anxiety

You can find Ellen’s book, The Anatomy of Anxiety, and her work on her website ellenvora.com, and connect with her on IG @ellenvoramd

The inspiration toolkit I mention in this episode was shared with me by Maria Minnis, in Episode 26 of A Wave Away.
